Parameter and Statistic
Mathematically, a parameter is a numerical variable that takes a value calculated based on information collected from all subjects in a population. You may think of it as a characteristic of a population of your interest such as population mean, variance, or median. A statistic is a numerical variable that takes a value calculated based on information collected from all subjects in a sample.
